The Role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer with a strong background in Java/JEE technologies to lead and contribute to complex client projects. The desired candidate will work in an Agile environment, collaborating closely with project managers, product owners, business/technical analysts, peer developers and test analysts to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.
- Build and consume RESTful and SOAP APIs (JAX-WS).
- Migrate legacy systems (e.g., C-based applications) to modern Java-based architectures.
- Write and maintain unit tests (JUnit, Mockito) and integration tests (Karate).
- Optimise application performance through code refactoring, query optimisation, and data analysis.
- Work with relational (MySQL) and NoSQL (MarkLogic)
- Use DOM, StAX parsers, XPath, XSLT, and Apache POI for XML/Excel data processing.
- Implement config-driven solutions using Java Reflection API to reduce code changes.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and code reviews.
- Mentor junior team members and conduct knowledge transfer sessions.
- Use Git, JIRA, Confluence, and Postman for version control, project tracking, and API testing.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 8+ years of professional backend development experience (aligned with CV).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Strong expertise in Java, Spring (including Spring REST), and Hibernate.
- Proven experience with JUnit, Mockito, and Karate testing frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with MySQL and MarkLogic (or similar NoSQL).
- Experience migrating legacy applications (e.g., C to Java).
- Proficiency with XML processing (DOM, StAX, XPath, XSLT) and Apache POI.
- Familiarity with Java Swing (for internal tooling/support).
- Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA & Confluence.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Desirable (Nice to Have):
- Certifications: Certified Spring Professional, Azure Fundamentals, Agile Developer Certification.
- Experience with Tomcat, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA is preferable.
